Steelworker Humanity Fund (SHF)

The Steelworkers Humanity Fund (SHF) is a registered charitable organization that works with organizations around the globe to promote respect for human and workers’ rights. For the past 40 years, the SHF has supported international development projects, provided emergency humanitarian aid for disasters around the world, supported food banks across Canada, offered an education program for Steelworker members, as well as supported Steelworker communities through various crises.

Local 2010 is a proud contributor to the Steelworker Humanity Fund, with a high participation rate of members in the Support Staff bargaining unit contributing $0.03 cents per hour worked from their monthly pay. Under Article 26, the University deducts contributions, forwards the funds to the Canadian National Office, and reports all member contributions on our annual T4 slips as a charitable contribution.

When onboarding to a position within the Support Staff bargaining unit, Members are automatically enrolled to the Steelworker Humanity Fund, but participation by an Member in the program can be discontinued or reinstated following written notification using the Opt-In/Opt-Out forms found on the HR web site.
